Introducing the Super Icon Series. Meet Kim – our Home and Accessories Buyer here at Superette. She shares with us what a day in the life looks like for herself and her Mum, what their favourite pieces in their wardrobes are and how they would describe their relationship.
Tell us a little about yourself? What keeps you busy?
K: Being a buyer, I’m responsible for the buying and success of all non-apparel categories within Superette, Home, Beauty, Jewellery, Accessories and Kids. No two days are the same and there’s always something exciting going on and new projects in the works. I’ve been with Superette for seven years now, starting as a stock coordinator in store and working my way up, it really has been the best seven years and counting. Outside of work, my husband and I are always on the go, whether it be at his sport or out and about with friends, life is busy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
S: We are lucky to live up north at Matapouri Bay and to be able to enjoy this beautiful coastline in our daily living. We made the move from Auckland a few years ago and have never looked back. I love pottering in my garden and doing a bit of baking. We enjoy the slower paced lifestyle up here but I must say there is something special about the whirlwind of family and friends when they come to stay that I just love, lots of laughs, a few cocktails and dancing.
What do you love doing together most?
K: With distance between us, daily phone calls are our way of connecting. When we are together, we certainly love a good coffee run and a cheese scone. Dinner dates at our favourite restaurants with a margarita in hand or doing a spot of shopping together.
S: When Kimberley is up north, we love our morning beach walks with the dog or our breakfast dates at the local café over the hill in Tutukaka. In Auckland, we love a day out together shopping and just being in each other’s company.
How are you similar and how are you different?
K: We both have a love for homewares, especially candles. Mum is always burning a beautiful candle, which has inspired me to do the same in my own home. We of course share a love for fashion – Mum’s Dad (my grandfather) was a fashion manufacturer. I have early memories of spending time at his factory on Mackelvie Street in Grey Lynn. Mum & Dad were also in the textiles and rag trade industry, so I was fully immersed from a young age. In terms of how we are different, Mum is a gardening wizard, which doesn’t come as naturally to me. I often send my orchids up north to the ‘orchid doctor’ to be brought back to life, Mum’s orchids are so lush they could 100% be entered into a show.
S: We are very similar in that we both love our homewares, white always with a splash of colour here and there. We also share a love for anything to do with fashion and are always sending each other pieces to get the others opinion on before we buy. A difference would be that Kim really enjoys her sport and me not so much.
How would you describe your style?
K: Classic, effortless with a twist, love to add a bit of colour and sparkle in the mix.
S: Sophisticated, classic and modern, with age in mind
What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?
K: Without a doubt my YSL bag, my husband surprised me with it on the morning of our wedding, which makes it that much more special to me. Otherwise probably my newest purchase, a pair of Golden Goose Sneakers from Superette International.
S: My Celine sunglasses from Superette. I’m also a huge P.E Nation fan, especially their sweaters.
How would you describe your mum/daughter?
K: I admire Mum for her kindness and generosity, she is incredibly loving and caring and would do anything for those that she loves. She has the coolest style and ever better dance moves.
S: Kimberley is very outgoing and hardworking, she knows what she wants and goes for it. She has a great sense of humour and a bubbly personality that can light up a room and is incredibly loyal.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
K: ‘Keep good company’
S: ‘Always look forward, never back’
