To the Dads, Grandads, Uncles and Father Figures with so much to give. We’re here to celebrate you this Father’s Day.
We teamed up with BamBam and five kiwi dads to bring you Superette Rad Dads. A new series to put the spotlight on exceptional dads and their adorable wee ones. Meet Julian Savea, our second Rad Dad in the series. We chat to him about his fave thing about being a dad, what he’s learnt along the way and advice he would pass onto his kids.
Tell us a little about yourself? What keeps you busy?
Hey my name is Julian Savea. I’m a husband to Fatima and father to two daughters Cora and Jude. I’m a professional athlete playing rugby for the Hurricanes in Wellington. What keeps me busy is my my career, my family life and my daughters.
Who are you a Dad to?
I am a dad to Cora (9 years) and Jude (3 years).
What’s your favourite thing about being a Dad?
My favourite thing about being a dad is being able to be a role model for them. I love being able to teach them good values in life and hopefully as they grew older they can make good decisions and be kind people. But for now I’m enjoying the kisses and cuddles every day. Knowing that they love me unconditionally brings joy to my heart and I cherish that everyday.
Biggest lesson you’ve learnt being a dad?
The biggest lesson I’ve learnt being a dad is definitely having patience. Whether thats just playing around in their rooms with their dolls or pretending to be super heroes. I’ve also learnt to have patience while they throw tantrums! I’ve have learnt to calm the situation right away, or try calm them down while I’m talking to them and reasoning with them so that I can navigate and find out why my girls are upset and try find a solution.
Best piece of advice you would pass on to your kids?
My best piece of advice is to always have dreams, always have goals and to never be scared to fail in life because without failure there is no success. I want them to try new things and simply be kind to others.
How would you describe your style?
My style is very casual / streetwear. I live in track pants and I’m a bit of a sneaker head too. I also don’t mind getting bougee every now and then and dressing up for occasions.
What are your favourite brands at Superette?
A few of my favourite brands at Superette are Ksubi , Superette and Golden Goose.
