As the weather gets colder I’ve been turning to a good book to keep me entertained in lockdown and have a heap of recommendations that I wanted to share with you all ! I’m definitely partial to non-fiction so you will find quite a bit of that in my recommendations but I’ll try to throw in a bit of fiction every now and again!
Enjoy and please throw any recommendations you might have my way! I would love to hear from you!

MY FRIEND ANNA: THE TRUE STORY OF A FAKE HEIRESS | RACHEL DELOACHE WILLIAMS
I couldn’t read this book fast enough. My Friend Anna tells the astonishing true story of a young con artist Anna Delvey who poses as a German heiress in New York City. Vanity Fair editor Rachel DeLoache Williams was one of the many who fell for her trap and before she knew it had been conned out of almost $70,000 USD. (P.S. There’s also an amazing podcast Fake Heiress that I would also highly recommend listening to!)
HOW TO MURDER YOUR LIFE | CAT MARNELL
At twenty-six, Cat Marnell was an associate beauty editor at Lucky, one of the top fashion magazines in America—and that’s all most people knew about her. But she hid a secret life and an increasingly detrimental prescription drug addiction. This addictive memoir combines the intoxicating intrigue of a thriller with a truly gripping real-life story.
THE PRETTIEST HORSE IN THE GLUE FACTORY | COREY WHITE
After losing his father to Jail and his mother to heroin, Corey White became a target for the cruelty and dysfunction of foster homes. This memoir is equally parts hilarious and traumatic, heartbreaking and captivating, easy to read and so hard at the same time.
IN ORDER TO LIVE | YEONMI PARK
This book tells the rollercoaster story of Yeonmi Park’s escape from North Korea. A book that will make you beyond thankful for the freedom you have. Wildly captivating, cannot recommend this enough.
TRICK MIRROR | JIA TOLENTINO
This is a book about the incentives that shape us, and about how hard it is to see ourselves clearly through a culture that revolves around the self. Trick Mirror is a brilliant source of cutlural criticism and a challenging read with a bit of humor thrown in the mix!
THIS WILL ONLY HURT A LITTLE | BUSY PHILIPPS
To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t Busy’s biggest fan before reading this book. Wether you like her or not, her story really is fascinating. She’s a true entertainer and brings her sly sense of humor and incredible story-telling ability to the party.
CRAZY RICH ASIANS, CHINA RICH GIRLFRIEND & RICH PEOPLE PROBLEMS | KEVIN KWAN
You have probably seen Crazy Rich Asians in the cinema or on Netflix. Don’t get me wrong, I love the movie but like most stories that are adapted to film, the books are even better. I couldn’t just recommend the first book either, the full trilogy is a must-read.
PROMISING YOUNG WOMEN | CAROLINE O’DONOGHUE
Jane Peters is an adrift twenty-something by day, and a world-weary agony aunt by night. But when an office party goes too far, Jane dissolves into the high-stakes world of being the Other Woman: a role she has the right advice for, but not the smarts to follow through on. Promising Young Women it’s witty, engaging and easy to gobble up.
BOY SWALLOWS UNIVERSE | TRENT DALTON
The list of the awards this book has won is almost as long as the book itself. Boy Swallows Universe tells the electric story of Eli’s very complicated life. It’s quirky, devestating and thrilling all at the same time. My short review can’t do it justice but trust me when I say you should read it immediately!
Lastly, here’s my current book reading situation!
