We took 5 mins to chat with Gemma Patford…

How would you describe the aesthetic and inspiration of your brand?
I hope that my brand embodies a clean calming aesthetic. Something people can find inspiration in, and want to use everyday. I really enjoy the fluidity of the rope. Something about the uninterrupted coil shapes really speaks to me.

What are your hobbies?
I love cooking, trying out and testing new recipes. I am a keen sewer and pattern maker. I think I have a very 3D brain. I really enjoy styling shoots, decorating rooms, playing with new colour ways, teaching workshops and googling new DIY’s. I’ve got very itchy fingers.

Describe a typical day for you?
On weekdays, I am dressed in paint splattered clothes and an in the studio on a full breakfast of coffee, fruit and yogurt. I spend the morning looking over my to-do and reconcile any shipped orders from the previous day. The middle of my day is spent creating, crafting and filling new orders. At the end of each day, I try and commit one hour to answering emails, updating the next days to-do list, writing invoices and brainstorming new ideas.

What do you do to unwind after a busy day?
On a good day, I will try and convince my husband to go for a walk to Merri Creek. Most nights Duncan and I will cook dinner together (he is the spice master while I am chipper chopper) and we talk and unpack our days.

Favourite food?
Spaghetti – Hands down!
Second runner up, traditional old school fish tacos.
Third, pho

Favourite piece from your current collection?
I love the soft colours of the XX LARGE DULUX DIAMOND – Light grey diamond with peach inner. This new size and colour way is so soothing to look at.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I am an open book. The horrible over sharer. I don’t think I have any secrets. I can roll my tongue three times, thats pretty gross. I also really enjoy white bread. I love it. Poor uncool white bread – I love you.
