P.E. Nation has just released their long-awaited menswear collection and it’s better than we could have imagined. We caught up with Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning, the co-founders of the ever-growing empire, to get the inside scoop on their latest venture.
What was your vision for the men’s collection?
Claire: The men’s collection was inspired by vintage sportswear and oversized silhouettes. We wanted to create a capsule that worked back across active and street, much like our women’s range but to ensure that the technical properties were really premium. We partnered with The Woolmark Company for some of our performance pieces which will see our P.E guys through from boxing to HIIT to running and everything in between.
Pip: We didn’t intend for P.E Nation to only be for women. It’s a brand with roots anchored in menswear. The desire to deliver to men what we deliver to women – effortless, comfortable, functional, everyday wear- this has always been our vision.
How would you describe the P.E. Nation guy?
Pip: He’s confident, he’s sporty, he’s fun and knows his style. He’s definitely a style-conscious active enthusiast that loves functionality and comfort, yet is inspired by the street.
Colour blocking with a strong 90’s influence are part of the P.E. Nation identity, does this carry through into the men’s collection?
Pip: Definitely! We don’t really see our collections as P.E Nation Men’s and Women’s, really it’s just P.E NATION, a united nation – and our vibe remains the same. Colour blocking and the 90s are two of our key influences and will continue to be.
Can you walk us through the design process?
Claire: It’s the same process as we have for the women’s. It starts with Pip and I workshopping ideas, creating vision boards and mood boards, then planning out what the actual pieces will be and how they will work together.
What are you’re favourite pieces from the collection so far?
Pip: I love the spray pants, the fleece sweats and the very loud print moto cross top!!!! I personally only really wear oversized silhouettes so these pieces will interchange perfectly into my own wardrobe!!!!!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt from the P.E. Nation journey so far?
Pip: Trust your gut always! Stay true to who you are and believe in what you do. If you don’t believe it, no one will.
How would you describe P.E. Nation in five words?
Claire: Street inspired teamed with performance.
A baggy sweat is always a good go-to but are there any trends can we expect to see in athleisure for 2018?
Pip: The return of the baggy track pant and the baggy jean, the more oversized the better !!!! If you wear either of these with an oversized sweat, you are on point!!!
What’s up next for P.E. Nation?
Pip: There are always projects boiling in the pipeline for P.E Nation! Obviously, the launch of menswear is a massive one for us. We’ve also got a yoga capsule dropping this month, a wider offering of denim and a couple of incredible international collabs for later in the year. We are going to be super busy !!
