In celebration of our 15th Birthday, we’ve met up with our ultimate girl crush Pip Edwards who is not to mention, killing it with all things active & athleisure. Find out more below about who she is, what she loves and how to look like a total babe whilst working out in her latest collection…
Tell us a little about P.E Nation… P.E Nation is an urban street meets active brand that is really an extension of Claire and I. It’s fashion focused activewear for women just like us – busy, working mothers who are interested in fashion, sport and who like to keep fit!
Why did you decide to go down the athleisure path? The athleisure aesthetic is close to our hearts, it’s how Claire and I dress day to day. It’s easy, it’s functional, comfortable and it’s fashionable.
It’s crazy how fast the P.E. Nation brand has progressed since the launch a year ago. What is your greatest achievement or highlight to date? It’s definitely been a whirlwind year. We have had a number of highlights in our first year of business – from showing at MBFWA 2016, to launching a pop up shop with Selfridges, to releasing our first collab with Reebok. All incredible milestones for us. The greatest highlight of course being the fact that our collections have resonated with women all over the world.
What was yours and Claire’s vision for P.E Nation’s most recent collection? Claire and I are very inspired by 90’s street sport. We love a hint of retro vibes and we see everything in colour blocks! It’s about being strong and confident and owning the aesthetic that we are proud to have built up.
What is your most coveted piece from the collection? I love all of the jackets and the introduction of denim. I’ve been living in the Traction Jean.
In terms of the design process, how do you decide what is right for the P.E. Nation customer? Like most businesses we run off sales reports and external trends and try to marry the two, but a lot of the time, Claire and I work to a gut feel. As Claire and I embody the P.E customer, we ensure that the pieces work to our lifestyle and training regimes and how it makes us feel.
What advice would you give to designers, creatives and businesswomen who are interested in the fashion industry? Find your point of difference and stick to it. Be exactly who you are and try to be disruptive – there is no room in the industry for a uniform anymore…. Just be yourself and own who you are.
You have an amazing wardrobe, how would you sum up your personal style? Tomboy street with a keen interest in designer shoes! Always based around street sport and a focus on denim.
Fitness is obviously a big part of your life, what is your favourite workout at the moment? At the moment, I have transitioned back to pilates. I used to do it a lot and then moved into HIIT and boxing … but now I need to refine and tweak my body and core and have loved coming back to pilates.
We all love visting Sydney here at Superette, what are your top Sydney go to’s on your days off? Icebergs for a Bloody Mary, surf at Bronte Beach then a swim at the pool, walk Bondi to Bronte, sunbake at North Bondi or Icebergs Pool, dinner at the Dolphin in Surry Hills, shop at the Intersection in Paddington and swing past Parlour X. Then on the weekend hang at Palm Beach, starting with brekky at The Boathouse (how dreamy!)
What’s next on the cards for P.E. Nation? There is lots in the pipeline! You really just have to watch this space…
