When In Wellington

It’s not all gail force winds and raincoat weather in Windy Wellington. Catch Welly on a bluebird day and you’ll find yourself never wanting to leave! But what do we love most about our capital city? Well you’re about to find out. We’ve gathered our top spots for food, drinks and shopping with a bit of sight-seeing along the way.

It’s safe to say, Welly is the home to a foodie’s paradise. They are up to date with all the latest food creations, quirky cafés and craft beers. We have had to narrow down our absolute top spots to visit because if we listed them all, we’d be here forever!

The Chippery — Starting with the most Instagrammed meal of Wellington, the Mt Vic. Chippery isn’t one for the faint hearted. Serving the best fish & chips (their own words, and ours) of all time, they have their own commercial fisherman providing the freshest fish straight from the sea. Not only do these guys deliver the top quality fish of the sea, but also a variety to choose from — that’s what we like! Once the fish has landed ashore, it’s battered in the finest quality Wellington craft beer. Accompanied by hand cut Agria chips and you’ve got yourself a pretty sweet deal.

And for those with a restricted diet, they even have their own gluten free fryer, isn’t that thoughtful! As well as plenty of vegetarian and vegan offerings, we promise this one is for everyone!

Fidels Café — Oh Fidels… home to the tastiest Snickers Milkshake we are left dreaming of. Literally. Located on Cuba Street, Fidel’s Café has a long history of serving a wide variety of amazing food from brunch ’til dinner, which means the late-night coffee runs are totally a thing. Our fave time to go is for weekend brunch, but make sure you set that alarm as this seems to be everyone else’s fave time too. The fit-out is totally quirky with street art interiors, booths to get comfortable in and a beautiful courtyard that brings in all the sun on a blue sky day. p.s. the Snickers Milkshake is a MUST try. If you went without trying, you didn’t even go there.

Chow — We’re always down for a bit of Asian fusion and what better way to do it than tapas-style. Chow is a fun and vibrant tapas-style restaurant perfect for a date night or catching up with your mates. Located above Tory Street, the restaurant is right in the heart of all the buzzy CBD buildings. They only serve the freshest market ingredients including free range pork, chicken and eggs with no MSG — that’s what we’re about! Most popular for their Monday two-for-one promotion the ones we can’t go past on the menu are the blue cheese and peanut wontons, banana leaf steamed terakihi with coconut sauce *drool* and the Pekin Duck Lettuce Cups — not to be missed! Wash that down with one of their fruity cocktails and you’ll be walking out the door with one satisfied tummy.

Lyall Bay — Whether you’re the adventurous type or keen for a chilled sight-seeing sesh, Wellington is filled with all the pretty places to see. Let’s start with one that involves food (the most important of course). Cruise out to the South Coast to Lyall Bay for a walk along Wellington’s most popular surf beach. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, the popular Maranui Café is located on top of the Surf Club building with a view for miles.

Mt Victoria — As we all know, summer is just around the corner and we’re all about shredding off those winter layers. A walk up Mount Victoria is a must do when in Welly. Rising 196m above the city, the sweaty workout is well worth the stunning 360 panoramic views once you reach the top. Even better, take a picnic with you and watch the sunset… or sunrise if you’re that kind of person! We can promise it’s well worth it.

Red Rocks — Just minutes away from the city centre, driving over rocks and small rivers (a 4WD drive is definitely recommended) you will find a playground. Not your typical type of playground, but a playing ground home to a colony of New Zealand fur seals. Take in the exhilarating views of their natural habitat surrounded by crashing waves and the famous Leaning Lighthouse, this day trip won’t be just another day that’s for sure.

Now it’s time to get down to the serious stuff. Wellington is well-known for their wide range of retail stores and fashion culture which is where we come in! Our Wellington Superette Store. You can find us within the busy CBD on Victoria Street. With our wide-scaped glass windows, there’s no way you can miss us! We welcome you with a hanging garden, bright lights and an open space to experience the true Superette lifestyle. With a wide variety to choose from, we have everything for you and your loved ones; your partner, kids & humble abode. So come pop in and say hi to our lovely Superstars, they’ll show what we have in store for you but we can’t make any promises that you’ll be leaving empty handed!
