Abbylee of HEALTHYSELF visited the studio to share her big dreams of Bali for this coming Mother’s Day…
The life of Abbylee is go, go, go being the owner of HEALTHYSELF and mother to her young boy Cassius. An independent young man, Cassius left Mummy alone for a while to chat with us while he explored the Superette studio. Abbylee talked us through her parenting style, her daily ritual (that starts at 3am) and her dream Mother’s Day in Bali (fingers crossed!).
What’s a parenting trait that you’ve inherited from your own mother?
My parenting to my mum is really, really different. The way that I parent is… the tool is attachment. I do a lot of time with Cass – he’s never cried himself to sleep. My mother is a great mother – but I just have a different parenting style. She’s hard and I come at everything with love. As a grandmother, she is very different though!
What advice would you go back and give your pregnant self if you could?
Enjoy it. Because once you have the baby, it is so f*cking hard [laughs]. People are like ‘oh being pregnant is so shit and hard’ but let me tell you, being a mother is like SO shit and hard. And sleepless.
What’s your personal style like and has it evolved much since becoming a mother?
This is what I’ve worn always. What do they call it – “acu-leisure”? I have tried to wear shirts, or even jeans, but they’re tricky. Even dresses – so hard. My style is comfy, it’s easy. I actually get a bit anxious if I have to wear, what I call, “normal” clothes.
What’s your morning ritual?
Probably around 3am Cass comes into our bed for cuddles. He’ll go back to sleep. Then at 5am he’ll ask for ‘susu’ which is Balinese for breast milk! Then when that’s finished it’s about 6am and he’s asking for “dinner, dinner!” I really love breakfast for dinner but he loves dinner for breakfast. Then he’s off to kids club for two hours and I get a bit of me/work time.
What’s your favourite thing to do with Cass?
Wash wash! …That’s washing the dishes. Or reading a book. He loves reading books!
What’s top of your Mothers Day wish list this year?
I don’t do very well with things and stuff, like material things… like don’t get me wrong, I love them. But my dream Mothers Day would be in Bali, doing a yoga class by myself, then sunbathing by a pool with someone bringing me fresh coconuts and a smoothie bowl. Then I’d be so relaxed and we could go off on an adventure as a family. On a motorbike, with Cass naked, with a little helmet. Swimming, beach time. Can I please have this? Flag the flights, can I teleport there?
