Winter days have a knack of giving us a daily craving for something a little sweet. We’re not sure whether it’s the drop in temperature, or the gloomy drizzle that leaves us at 3pm slump, fixed ONLY by a sugar or coffee hit. Well thankfully, we can do so now without guilt, thanks to the latest recipe dreamed up by Eleanor from Petite Kitchen.

Raw chocolate date truffles

If you are a chocolate lover like me, then you will love these raw chocolate and date truffles. They are free of refined sugar, dairy and gluten, and are made entirely with natural, nutrient rich ingredients. These delicious sweet treats are sure to satisfy your taste buds, while also rewarding your body. So go ahead, indulge, your body will love you for it. The perfect between meal snack.

10 pitted medjool dates, or 1 cup regular dates* see note below
1/2 cup cocoa or cacao powder
3/4 cup seeds or nuts of your choice, I like to use pumpkin and sunflower seeds
1/2 cup desiccated coconut, plus 1/2 cup for decorating
1/3 cup water

*if using regular dates, you must soak them for at least 6 hours, or overnight then drain well.

Place the seeds and or nuts in to a food processer. Blend for a minute or so until a dense flour like consistency is achieved. Add the remaining ingredients and pulse a couple of times until the ingredients begin to stick together, almost like a dough.

Use your hands to form small balls. Roll the balls in the remaining desiccated coconut to finish.

The truffles can be kept at room temperature, but I find they are best kept in the fridge.

Makes around 30 truffles. They will keep for 3-4 days.
